Women's March in Washington D.C. 1.22.2016
Several winters ago I was challenged to keep a journal of type and lettering I found and loved throughout NYC. I consciously carried my camera over a 4-month period and captured the lettering and type I found throughout the city. The final project consists of 40 photographs self-published by Blurb.
Before I moved to the city I was fascinated by the contrast between intimate and public space shared on the subway as well as the marks of humanity embedded in the space. A series of spatial portraits developed from over 4 years visiting the city and riding the subway lines from end to end. I used my Canon AE1 and shot with slide film cross processing it in post to achieve the grain and saturated color.
