This still life series begain a month before the Covid-19 pandemic hit New York City. It began as a sculptural exploration examining contrasts between synthetic and organic materials, spatial co-existence, and ecological sustainability. As the series continued to develop in the midst of the pandemic, it began to take on collective themes of isolation, grief, death and perseverance we were experiencing globally. My materials were limited to my neighborhood bodega in Brooklyn I visited once a week. I incorporated common packaging from produce and food items, building materials, and bouquets of flowers, creating compositions that celebrated color, movement and the tension between the decay of natural organic materials tangled in plastic. This series was created entirely in my home studio while in isolation.
