McKinney Interiors 01/12/09

This fall I continued working on the interior photography for McKinney Advertising Agency where I currently work as the agency photographer. The space of the agency was converted from an old 1800’s tobacco warehouse in downtown Durham, NC. The large beams from the warehouse are exposed and add to the texture and color of the open and creative space. The working spaces at McKinney reflect a hybrid of the laid back south and the good design philosophy of a nationally recognized ad agency. Large windows span the perimeter of the building creating a challenging lighting situation when I shot the center of the space. Another challenge was to authentically convey the ambient light and space without over lighting and making the images feel too slick and polished.

The space proved to be very photogenic, as well as my co-workers. Many different spaces in the agency were intentially created to encourage collaboration, problem solving, and creativity. The careful compositions in the photographs were opened up to include a candid and lighthearted side of McKinney that balances out the long days and nights. These photographs were taken with my Hasselblad camera using VC 800 speed film and a Nikon D80. I added some fill light to darker areas and bounced light off of the light colored walls. These photographs will soon be on McKinney’s website and used in promotional materials.
