Drawings from Recent Solo Show 03/24/09 This series of drawings are meditations on different characteristics of
music using gauche, ink, charcoal, fabric and marker on layered
translucent paper. Parris explores different ways mark making can mimic
musical notation and convey varying degrees of energy and volume. In
some drawings the marks aggressively drive the composition and in
others color is used as the dominant quality reflective of melody and
harmony weaving in and out of each other. Feelings of depth, texture
and tone are achieved by layering many pieces of velum together to push
together or pull apart the marks, color and spatial dimensions of each
piece. These soundscapes reflect a measure or phrase of music being
played over a short period of time and purposely do not reference
specific pieces of music leaving room for the viewer's interpretation. Please contact me if you are interested in buying a print!

A special thanks to Dave Mello for taking these pics at the opening.
